Biokovo




Biokovo is a mountain massif in the Split-Dalmatia County that separates the Adriatic from Dalmatian Zagora.

The highest peak is Sveti Jure, 1762 meters high, which can be reached by the 23 km long Biokovo road. Due to its unique features, Mount Biokovo is considered a natural resource of exceptional importance for the Republic of Croatia and Europe. The area abounds in rare, endangered and endemic species, as well as diverse habitats. One notable example is the flower Biokovo bell, an endemic plant from the family of Campanulaceae, growing exclusively in the peak areas. The largest part of the mountain Biokovo was declared a Nature Park in 1981, due to its unique geomorphology, astonishing beauty of its landscape and biodiversity.

Apart from being a Nature Park, the entire Biokovo area is part of the NATURA2000 ecological network as an essential animal species and habitat types conservation area, particularly noted for its numerous rare bird species. The main entrance to the mountain, along numerous walking trails, is located on the 6th kilometre of the state road Makarska - Vrgorac. St. Jure peak can be reached by hiking trails, as well as the Biokovo road, the highest road in Croatia. The site offers an amazing view of the Makarska Riviera. On a clear day, it is possible to spot Monte Gargano in Italy, 250 km away. A mountain lodge "Pod Svetim Jurom", owned by the Biokovo Nature Park, is situated just beneath the peak.

Many notable, marked hiking and biking trails are situated immediately above the town of Drvenik. That is where you can enjoy the more active side of your vacation, and discover the richness and diversity of nature. There are several trails of varying intensities, suitable for recreationists and nature lovers. You can get additional information about hiking at the hotel, including a map of hiking trails, the height difference, the length of the trail, the duration of the hike and the degree of difficulty for every the climb.

Skywalk is located in the southwestern part of the Biokovo Nature Park, above Tučepi, at an altitude of 1228 meters above sea level, on the 13th km of the Biokovo road, right next to the info-center. It is constructed in the shape of a horseshoe, and is located on the edge of a cliff, above the abyss. Its glass floors offer an unforgettable view of the Riviera and the surrounding islands – a sight that will surely take every visitor’s breath away.

Adventure-lovers and those who want to get their adrenaline pumping will find plenty of joy on the Tučepi zip-line, suitable for all age groups. An expert guide will lead you on the descent by a 700 meter long zipline cable.
